Robert Dana Chellis is Senior Advisor at Campus Continuum. He focuses on conceptualizing
our projects to best meet the goals of the host academic institution and prospective
residents.
As a planner, developer, consultant, trustee, past-President of organizations
including National Lifecare Corporation, Senior Living Inc., and the New
England Gerontological Association - Bob has visited hundreds of campus-style
and other
senior communities, and enjoyed deep involvement in the trends and evolution
of senior housing for over 40 years.
Experience:
- Carleton-Willard Village, Bedford, MA - over 30 years ago he initiated,
programmed and followed to completion the first CCRC in Mass.- over 400 units
on 65 acres - with five levels of living and care from cottages to nursing
beds. Educational opportunities (rejected by the trustees as too innovative
- for the '70's) were educational affiliations Bob had arranged with Boston
University Medical School to develop a "teaching nursing home," and
an innovative cross-generational program bringing the Lexington Montessori
School to the site.
- Almost 20 years ago Bob programmed Riverwoods at Exeter
(a CCRC in NH for grads of the nearby University of NH, and Phillips Academy),
and Applewood
at Amherst, a CCRC for graduates of the "Five Colleges" in Amherst,
MA.
- Lasell College - Over 10 years ago Bob was a consultant to the Trustees
of Lasell College, as they fine-tuned their plans for Lasell Village. This
is
the current benchmark for school related projects.
- Within the last 10 years Bob has been commissioned to do master plans and
feasibility studies for college based retirement villages by Univ. of Maine
at Orono, and Connecticut College in New London, CT.
- MIT - The Emma Rogers Society, Cambridge, MA. retained Bob to advise on
Retirement Planning and Options for the widows of MIT, MIT faculty, staff
and graduates.
- Harvard University - Division of Real Estate twice commissioned Bob to
draft memos on the status and potential of university sponsored retirement
housing.
- Harvard Graduate School of Design - retained Bob to teach a course in "Life
Care Development" for their continuing education evening program, and
to teach "Elderly Housing" at their summer school program.
- Harvard School of Public Health co-sponsored a national conference Bob
developed on Congregate Housing for Older People.
- Harvard Medical School co-sponsored a national conference Bob developed
on Life Care retirement housing.
- Boston University and Marriott Senior Services co-sponsored a national
conference Bob organized on the development of Life Care programs.
- Texas Tech - developed an expansion plan for the John Knox Village of West
Texas, in Lubbock. Re-christened it "Carillon" and encouraged strong,
successful research links with nearby Texas Tech.
- U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging asked for Bob's testimony on the
directions and financing of senior housing.
- Represented the senior housing perspective on a Ted Koppel national TV
special "Aging
in the 21st Century."
